Why are there more job vacancies at the end of year compare to the beginning of the year?

End-of-year job vacancies are often the result of an employer's budget. Learn more about why there may be more job postings at the end of the year and how to take advantage of them!

There are typically more job vacancies at the end of the year for a few reasons.

First, many companies' fiscal years end in December, so they may have budgeted to hire more employees earlier in the year but those positions may not be filled until later.

Additionally, holiday retail hiring usually ramps up at the end of the year, creating even more openings for seasonal workers. Some staff may be retained past the holidays, creating opportunities for permanent jobs.

Finally, some employers wait until after performance reviews and bonus season to make personnel changes, resulting in additional job postings towards the end of the year.
